5-W
I have just spent a lovely weekend with my Nile sisters. One of our ladies and her husband have access to a fish camp. We are fortunate enough to be able to go a couple of weekends a year and relax. We play cards, eat, gaze out the windows @ a breathtaking view and enjoy relaxing. It has been a busy few months with fundraising. We done well, and now it is time to relax, if only for a weekend. Enjoy your fall ladies and I will update soon.

80th Birthday Celebration

We were in Greenville this weekend, celebration the 80th birthday of the Shriners Hospital.
At the Luncheon on Friday, this young man presented the hospital a check for $7000.00. He wanted to help raise $ for the handicap playground. He ask churches, individuals, and companies. He got the whole community involved. Doesn't this make your heart feel good. We had many more presentation and at the end of the weekend it was announced that $186,000.00 of the 200,000.00 needed was raised.
This hospital was open to the public and everyone was welcomed. There was tours, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, balloons, birthday cake, luncheons, Fish Fry's, banquets and smiling faces. Our clown unit clowned out and entertained the children. These ladies worked hard. I got to see the mural our group painted on the wall of one of the cast rooms. We toured parts of the hospitals not normally shown. But it was opened for this special weekend. Doctors and nurses explained to us the importance of each room and it's function. It is impressive that children only stay a few days after surgery now, not long ago they would stay weeks or months. Technology is remarkable.

Well, we started today cooking for the weekend crop. We made Baklava today. And yes it takes three of us to make it. If you have never had Baklava, you are in for a treat. It is very good. Thursday, a few volunteers will meet at Dawns and cook more. Preparing food for us to eat, so I suggest you stop eating now. Another way to look at it, Rick and Bubba start over eating in October to stretch their stomach , in preparation for the Holidays. It is left up to you.

Thursday, September 6, 2007

Are you ready? It seemed like it would never get here. The anticipation of this crop, has, at times been too much. I miss all my cropping friends and we don't get to see each other as much as I want to. And to raise money for the children is just a bonus. So don't forget your sheets and towels, and I suggest stop eating now. Cause we are going to have all of Dawn's great food again this year. Hope you are hungry.
Have a great weekend and I will see you all on Friday.

Pink Lodge

Last night the Daughters of the Nile preformed "THE PINK LODGE". It is a sketch of what the women think the men are doing at the Masonic Lodge. It is a comedy performance, that brings a lot of laughs. This is another one of our fundraising efforts.
This is a wonderful group of women and I enjoy being apart of this organization.
Can you find me??? Just one more way we work to help these children in the hospital. Next week we will be setting up at the world's longest yard sale. The 450 mile yard sale that starts, or ends,( depends on what end you start at), in Gadsden around Noccalula Falls. So if you are traveling the yard sale looking for bargains, stop by and say Hello. We might even have that treasure you are looking for.

This is a article I recently received from scrap jazz:

Scrap Charity: The Gift of Giving
by Tiffany Roberts (Jul 22, 2007) http://www.scrapjazz.com/topics/Miscellaneous/Gifts_and_Craft_Projects/1272.php
I think most of us feel incredibly blessed.
We have families and friends who care for us, children, pets, jobs, homes, and freedoms that many people don't have. Even the simple act of being healthy and whole is a blessing often taken for granted.
I love the idea of using something I adore, scrapbooking, to help benefit others who may not have the blessings in life that I do. The gift of giving is what I like to call it. You can give in many ways. Your time, money, skills, and unused supplies are all necessary and helpful for groups who use scrapbooking as a source of therapy and recreation
Hosting a charity crop is a wonderful way to gather supplies, find like-minded people to join your cause, and to have fun! Donated idea books and magazines are always welcome along with supplies. Once you have some materials you could package supplies into kits, for example. These kits could be donated to any number of youth or elderly groups who would appreciate having them.

Don't you just love going to a crop/retreat?
I know I do....I never get alot done but I like the fact that we all have the same goal in common, to scrap.
A bond forms.
You know what I am talking about.. if a family member or friend does not scrap, they don't know what you are talking about.
They don't know that exciting feeling you get when a new tool or line of paper comes available. When a scrapbook store is having 50% off
and
dinner will have to wait because I am going to be at that class tonight.
Scrapper have a creed of, if I hear it at a crop, it stays at the crop.
We laugh, we act silly, we always eat and sometimes we cry.
There is confessions, there is friendships sealed.
Won't you join us????

How can I help?
There's a lot of truth to the saying that alittle can go along way. Many organizations collect these little tabs, turning in the aluminum at the recycling center for money. The tabs are pure aluminum , with no paint on them like the cans. And easy to collect, no mess or fuss. So next time you enjoy a cool can drink, snap off that tab and save them for us.

Crop 2 Help
This is the reason I push this event. To help this child, makes my heart feel good.
Would you like to help?
I have had a idea. Because we rely on word of mouth to fill our crop, I am offering a special gift to the person that refer the most scrappers. So get out there and tell all your friends, tell the woman in the scrapbook store, ask your friends to ask their friends if they are interested.
And have these people to tell me when they register that you were responsible. Come on ladies we are about half way there. We want a full house this year, so we can help children like this one.
Will you help?

Saturday, June 16, 2007

I will then e-mail each and everyone of them for donations. I have over 50 at this time and when I think of another they are added. I can not contact them for a month or so but it is never to early to collect names. I have contacted a company about designing a tote bag for the goodie bag. Painting at Shriners Hospital

This past weekend eight Daughters of the Nile from the Aromaz Dynasty Temple #163 Irondale Alabama took a road trip to Greenville Shriners Hospital to paint a mural on the wall of one of the cast rooms. It is a great feeling knowing that the children will have something fun to look at while spending time in this room. You may remember Dawn Hill- our chief cook and bottle washer from our Retreat last year, she was the artist. Maybe I can get a picture of the mural for you to see soon. We enjoy helping these children and I, personally, hope you will join us on this exciting adventure, by coming to our Crop 2 Help Retreat 2007.

Saturday, March 17, 2007

This blog will benefit anyone who wants to join in on the fun of the second annual Crop 2 Help Retreat 2007. This is one of the many fund raising events we are involved in to help the children of the Shriner's hospital. Below is an explanation of who the Daughters of the Nile are.

Who Are We and What We Are All About
DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE
WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE CHILDREN
Who We Are:
Daughters of the Nile is a benevolent international fraternal organization for women of good character, eighteen (18) years of age or older, who are related by birth or marriage to a Shriner, Master Mason or a Daughter of the Nile.
Founded in 1913 in Seattle, Washington, Daughters of the Nile is comprised of 148 Temples throughout the United States and Canada, with more than 39,000 members.
The members of Daughters of the Nile are committed to supporting the important work of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Shriners Hospitals, the official philanthropy of the Shrine of North America, is a network of 22 children’s specialty hospitals throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. There are 18 orthopaedic Shriners Hospitals, three burn hospitals, and one Shriners Hospital that provide orthopaedic, burn and spinal cord injury care. All medical care and services provided by Shriners Hospitals are totally without charge to the children and their families. To date, Shriners Hospitals has provided specialized medical care to more than 800,000 children across North America.
Shriners Hospitals have become renowned for their expertise in orthopaedic and burn care, and they maintain their position in the forefront of these specialized areas through an extensive research program. They also focus on meeting the needs of the children of tomorrow through their affiliations with some of North America’s leading medical centers and their support of medical education and training, with many residents in orthopaedic and burn care receiving some of their training at a Shriners Hospital.
The members of Daughters of the Nile are proud of this record of generosity and are dedicated to their philosophy of “working together for the children.” By continuing their unwavering support of Shriners Hospitals, Daughters of the Nile are doing their part to help children lead better lives.
